Supporting Associations in DEI Efforts: A Commitment to Inclusive Excellence
Diversity, equity, and inclusion (or “DEI”) is a term that has become a bit of a punching bag of late. People think it is something different than it is. DEI (which we at Proximo call Inclusion &Belonging when workforce facing and Supplier Inclusion when vendor facing) is not about set-asides or giving preference to some over others, but merely about creating opportunities for everyone equally – and then it’s up to them to bring their best.
These aren’t just buzzwords but essential pillars for building a thriving and innovative organization. As highlighted in the below ASAE article on sustaining DEI efforts, associations play a crucial role in fostering inclusive environments.
Why It Is Important: Diversity and inclusion are not just ethical imperatives; they are business imperatives. Diverse teams bring a wealth of perspectives, driving innovation and better decision-making. By supporting DEI efforts, associations can create more dynamic and resilient communities, fostering a culture of belonging that benefits everyone. At Proximo, we have seen firsthand the positive impact of diversity through our workforce which spans ten countries and cultures, and our own Supplier Diversity initiatives, where we have spent 58% of our addressable spend with small and diverse suppliers.
Expanding DEI to Include Supplier Diversity: DEI efforts should not be limited to internal practices but should extend to the entire supply chain. (If you don’t think you have a “supply chain”, you do – itis all of the vendors that support you.) Supplier Inclusion is a critical component of a comprehensive DEI strategy. By including diverse suppliers, associations can promote economic equity and support underrepresented businesses. Proximo loves to help organizations expand their DEI efforts to include Supplier Diversity, ensuring a more inclusive and equitable marketplace.
Together, we can build a more inclusive future. Let’s continue to champion diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of our work.
